Gilchrist Needs You! PTO Meet N' Greet, April 17th

Our school needs your time and talent! You can help Gilchrist to continue as one of the premier elementary schools in Leon County by becoming involved with the PTO! There are many positions to be filled and we would love your involvement. No matter what your time availability, we have a job for you! Please join us for a Meet & Greet on Friday, April 17th from 8:15-9:15am under the covered area at the front of the school to learn more about how you can help support our super school. This is a "pop-in" event, so even if you have 15 minutes, we would love to have you join us! Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day: April 23rd

The annual Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day will be held on Thursday, April 23, 2015. Students in grades 3 through 8 may be given an excused absence to participate in this event, provided the parent:
  1. completes and submits to the school the attached form prior to April 23rd, and
  2. submits by Monday, April 27th to the school a written statement on his/her employer's letterhead verifying that the child accompanied the parent to his/her workplace on Thursday, April 23, 2015.

Please note that the form clearly states that the principal has the authority to deny permission to participate in the event if the absence would interfere with the completion of state required assessments. View Printable Flyer »

Mother's Day Cake Decorating: May 8th

Gilchrist has partnered with Publix supermarkets to provide an opportunity for families to purchase and students to decorate a cake for their mom, aunt, grandma or special someone on Friday, May 8th from 8:30-10:00am. Florida's First Lady Mrs. Ann Scott visits Gilchrist Elementary

  • April 25th: Family Movie Night Saturday evening, April 25th, the PTO will host a family movie night. The movie selection and time will be announced soon. This is a family night and parents will be required to supervise their children at the event.
  • May 7th: Skate World Share Night Thursday evening from 7:00-9:00pm

Florida Standards Assessment Testing Dates

Parents and guardians of our 3-5th grade students, we are fast approaching the state assessment tests and we remind you that attendance is extremely important now until the end of the year. Please do your best to make appointments before or after school hours as there is some instructional time dedicated for students to practice the new testing format and to prepare them to be able to successfully show what they know on the testing dates. Postcards have gone home through weekly folders and will also be sent through the U.S. mail to the addresses we have on file. Registration is now available for Gilchrist Summer Camp – register early to reserve your spot. Turn back the hands of time at Gilchrist's Time Warp Summer Camp. Join us as we escape this summer and travel in time through the past, present and future. If you have any questions, please contact Kim Prater or Aronia Jackson via email or 488-4060.

We have a summer camp designed for incoming kindergarteners called Kamp K-Club! We will have a week filled with enrichment and fun in and around the school to help your kids get ready for the "Big Day"!

Now Accepting NEW Student Registration for 2015-2016 School Year

Registration packets are available in the front office. Parents/Guardians will need to also provide the following information:
  • Proof of child's birth date
  • Proof of immunization
  • Physical examination (within the last year)
  • Two proofs of residency:
    1. homestead exemption, mortgage deed, lease, rental agreement or property tax record
      – and –
    2. utility bill or drivers license

Spring Choral Concert Rehearsal Schedule

This years performance of the Granny Awards will be shown on Tuesday, May 12th with 2 performances during the day, 8:50am and 9:45am and an evening performance at 7:00pm. Permission slips and rehearsal schedules have been sent home for those participating in the production. You can also click here for the rehearsal schedule and attire for the participants.

Volunteers are needed to make this event a success, there are a number of opportunities, including supervising students between acts, program production, decorating the stage, helping with props, and assisting the cast with makeup and costumes. Please email Ms. Brown with your contact information and how you are able to help.

New Updates

  • Gilchrist is now using solar panels to light the marquee on Timberlane Road. This is a wonderful use of technology for our students to learn about on our own campus.

  • Find your students text book online. Under our Media Center Tab – Online Resources (http://www.gilchrist.leon.k12.fl.us/mediaresources.html) you will find the McGraw-Hill link for the Wonders Language Arts Program, Think Central For Math & Science along with a number of useful enrichment programs such as IXL for math.
  • Community Happenings: Offerings from local partners, such as Texas Roadhouse, World Ballet, Barnes & Noble, Scholastic Books, and more.
  • Many pages throughout the website are updated regularly. Please check out our Media Center page to see their latest newsletter. Please also check back regularly to the SAC/SITE/SIP/SPAR page for important school information such as the school improvement plan, School Public Accountability Reports, School Grades and minutes along with a meeting schedule for our SAC committee.
