Gilchrist Skate Night!
Skate Night will be held Thursday, February 2nd from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Skate World on Capital Circle. Come out for an evening of fun, participate in games, win prizes,
and see your teachers out on the skate floor. This is a wonderful annual Gilchrist tradition. Gilchrist will also receive a portion of the
proceeds from the admission price. For those that are new to skating, tickets for free skate lessons are available in the school's front
office.

A Science Week that is Out of This World
During the Week of January 23rd, Gilchrist students will participate in a number of science activities.
Bringing science home: Students have brought home the instructions for a dancing
raisins experiment. Try it together! Students will also be participating in a school
wide balloon rocket experiment. You can try this at home too. All grades will also participate in an Earth Science Program provided by the Challenger Learning Center. Students will learn the answers to many important
questions such as: Why the earth has seasons... What is the position of the earth during the different seasons... What are the phases of the
moon... What is a climate... and so much more.

Librarians' Non-fiction Challenge
Our Gilchrist Media Specialists are presenting a reading challenge for 2nd-5th grade students. After reading 5 non-fiction books, turn in
your reading log (available below) to our Media Specialists by March 16th. There will be a drawing from all qualified entries at the
end of this AR period to win a book of your choice. Good luck Grizzlies!

Our Guidance Department has also set tour dates for January 10th at 1:00 p.m., February 7th at 9:00 a.m., March 6th at 1:00 p.m.,
and April 3rd at 9:00 a.m. For information on tours, please contact our Guidance Counselors, Mrs.
Wyatt and Mrs. Jackson.
